PayPal Stupidity

by Jenny on August 27, 2010

I use PayPal a lot. Who doesn’t? Usually they do a good job, until they do something very stupid.
I have numerous subscriptions to various services that are paid every month via PayPal.
One of my credit cards on file with PayPal was about to expire. So I went ahead of time and replaced the expiring card with a new card.
Next thing I know, they canceled one of my subscriptions. Same subscription that had this same credit card that I just replaced, as payment method.
I was very upset and emailed PayPal asking them “why did you cancel the subscription?”

So the next day I got a response from them. This was the stupidest thing they could come up with.
Here it is:

Dear Jenny Schneider,

Thank you for your email. If you have a subscription payment on PayPal
and you update or change that credit card or bank account that you use
for that payment, unfortunately it will automatically cancel your
subscription.
I do apologize for the inconvenience in this matter.

Sincerely,
Tamara

I am asking you, PayPal:
Why would you allow people to make changes if it will cancel the subscription? Isn’t this defeats the purpose?
We make the changes so the subscription will NOT get canceled or compromised when the card will expire.
