Conversational Confusion

I recently recommended to a friend of mine, who is typical ‘couch potato’, that she join FIT and start running. She did so, but like everyone who is new to exercise, she wound up with her fair share of aches and pains. This past Saturday, she ran her first six miles, and a few days later, on Tuesday, she was suffering from some severe muscle pain.

Now, this friend of mine is fluent in three different languages, but English is not one of those three. She works from home, and sits down most of the day in order to work. Yesterday, she went to the FIT coach and asked him what he would recommend in order to help lessen the muscle pain that she was now suffering from. The coach replied simply, ‘Ice it down.’ Quizzically, my friend thought that this advice could not be right, and she replied, ‘But, I sit down all day…’ (Say out loud: “Ice it down” and “I sit down”)

The coach missed this, and when realization dawned on my friend, she was too embarrassed to explain it. I got a huge laugh out of it.
