Domain Name Types
A person is often identified by where he lives or works. Think about it, a person is identified by his or her location, where he or she works from and where their office is currently located. These are the general factors by which a person can be identified with. At the same time, it’s important to understand that these are the few individualistic references which will make a person stand out in a crowd.
Similarly, a uniform resource locator (URL) helps to identify a website from the ocean called the internet. It is otherwise called the domain name, and it mostly needs to be purchased.
A URL is closely connected to the kind of website that you have. And you may have to list a few in case the one at the top of the list is not available.
There are many ways to register a URL. There are different sites available through which you can search for availability and then register an intellectual domain.
Most URLs end in .com, .net or .org. There are also country-specific and purpose-specific sites. The registration of the names takes only a few dollars annually. And the person owns the name till he decides not to pay the renewal amount. Or he or she can transfer the rights to another person, on receipt of a small payment. Here, a first-come first-serve basis exists and so, there are many who buy URLs to later sell it and make money.
However, for reselling, you would probably have to be smart to have owned a useful name. Names in themselves have little value unless linked to a business or certain content. So, if your desire is to make money from these names, try and go for ones connected to some business. And don’t make too many because if you fail to sell, the registration itself is going to cost a lot.
Don’t borrow any trademark names. They will probably be a burden and you will be unable to sell them. Also, you may run into trouble with the trademark owner.
It is important to name your website something that will bring people back to it. Not only must it be short and sweet, it should be easy to remember.
Widely, there are two types of domain names, brand-based and keyword-based.
The brand is something that people recognize easily and it helps to easily go to the site and related ones. Including your trade or business into the name makes it keyword-based. So, if somebody is searching for a genre or a product that you sell, they are likely to be directed to your site.
However, as many of the common names are already taken, it would take some mulling over to find a name that is appealing and will be popped out by a search engine if nudged. URLs thus could very well define the success and failure of a website.
